SMUNC
November 9, 2008 5:44 PMStanford Model UN Conference was so amazing. I'm really glad I went. There's so much to say about it but for some reason I just can't say it all right now, or I don't know the best way to say it. I got an award though! Honorable Mention, it really meant a lot to me. Our committee, Economic and Social Council or ECOSOC for short had about 50 people. I thought I did pretty well for my first conference, I passed one resolution and one directive, out of four resolutions passed and three directives passed.
Two of us from Albany got awards, and I was actually so excited and thrilled to get called up there. I didn't really do much at all for my first topic, food shortage, since I'm Algeria and the crisis is hurting other places a lot more. After we moved into oil, I kinda started taking the initiative, being a member of OPEC and though I didn't play as much of a role as Saudi Arabia in terms of the real situation, I knew the real situation pretty well and represented the agenda of OPEC well. Overall, I hate Paraguay.
"GOT HIM! GOT HIM GOOD!"
Whenever somebody got owned in debate or otherwise, we would say "GOT HIM" in a British accent. It was the flavor/phrase of the weekend, and considering it was debate, there were chances to mention it all over the place.
Quotes from my Facebook:
Paraguay: The delegate of Paraguay would like to suggest that oil provided by OPEC which they allegedly say they can produce, should be transferred to Russia through existing pipelines explained to us that lead to Turkey, which can then be transferred to the existing Russian pipeline and transported to Russia, thereby eliminating the crisis. There is no need to cut off the EU and involve them in a crisis that is strictly between China and Russia.
Moldova: So let me get this correct, you want to supply oil from the Middle East to Europe then to Russia, and then back to Europe? How do you propose they send oil in opposite directions at the same time? And where would be the efficiency of this proposal.
Nano: GOT HIM!
Eugene: GOT HIM BAD, DIDN'T HE?

Maneck: For some weird reason I take pleasure in annoying people and then watching their reactions.
