April 1, 2009

Wtf.

First day of classes, internet goes out for 24 hours. End of second day of classes, some dumbass pulls the fire alarm at 3am. Stood out in the cold for half an hour while firemen went around checking the buildings. I don't think I've been this irritated for a long time. Also my roommate wouldn't shut up the entire time, even when we got back in the building and I was trying to go back to sleep.

Really not looking forward to what day 3 is going to bring. But other then all the annoying stuff, classes themselves are going pretty good :)

Kangaroo Pocket Hoodies

I told myself that I wouldn't let myself become a total slob in college when I had to do my own laundry. I left all my ratty, oversized hoodies at home along with a bunch of other huge, comfortable jackets/sweatshirts. But I don't really do my own laundry, its easier to bring it home and have my mom take care of it because I'm lazy. I end up wearing whatever is clean, I really don't care and the only difference is that I just don't have any oversized hoodies.

Now its cold/windy outside and its not comfortable weather for a heavier jacket. I'm cold and I want to wear something comfortable and floppy.

Even if I could go home now, my siblings basically divided up my former collection and now most of them are with my brother. I can't believe him, stealing girl's clothing, and wearing it in public too! I mean they are unisex, but they were MINE first. MINE. Srsly, its THEFT of GIRL'S clothing. What a butt.

RAWR.

Its cold in my room and I have 200+ pages of reading to go through this weekend. I guess only solution is to forget about homework for tonight and leave everything else for Sunday :)

April Showers

I thought that Davis skipped straight from winter cold rain to summer, hot hot hot weather. Turns out that it hasn't stopped raining completely here. I was stupid and thought it was going to be ridiculously hot like yesterday, so I haven't been bringing my umbrella around since the quarter started. I got completely soaked, but it was so worth it.

Spring times is time for babies. One of my friends left her bike light in dorm, and hurried to class, then didn't have time to come back and get it because a goat was giving birth. We bought her backpack (after getting completely soaked in the rain), and got to see the newborn goat. It was so floppy and cuteee! We wanted to get out of the way of actual students, so we looked at baby sheep and piglets. I almost died from cuteness overload.

But I don't think I could go into animal science, just finding out how they notch the ears to show litter and pig number had me wincing in pain. And apparently the mother of the piglets is going to be slaughtered since she can't go back to the pig farm.

I guess I eat meat, but I don't really like to think about the thought of killing animals. I wonder if I should become vegetarian.

清明

A little late, but better then not at all, I can't remember if it was raining or not.

It's so strange to be home, its so quiet here that I find myself straining for sounds of upstairs people walking, the guy next door playing guitar or suite mates talking. Of course I don't miss people coming in and out of the gate, the alarm going off when people are stupid, and when people come in and out noisily at odd hours. But the house feels empty.

Ah well, perfect day to write a paper and catch up on all the assignments I haven't done.

annoyed

Lately my roommate seems to be having a permanent bad day. Constantly rude, not just to me, but to other people and suite mates. And she just keeps on spouting these comments. I just don't know what to say anymore since I don't know what exactly is setting her off because everything seems to piss her off.

After I while I can't decided whether its more polite to say something neutral back or to just ignore her. At the same time its only for a couple more months, and I always can avoid her by staying outside. But really, its annoying if she's mad about something and takes it out on everyone around her. I just can't figure out what she's so worked up over.

roommate rant

Because I'm a terrible, petty person who can't write about happy things. Its really funny because this quarter I'm actually having a lot more fun doing nothing special compared to last quarter, but at the same time my roommate annoys me more then ever. If I make the slightest noise, she comments on it. "Oh, thats kind of annoying." Thanks. Did I mention that I have yet to figure out all the settings on my brother's laptop? But thats a story for another day.

So basically one of my suitemates who happened to be an RA moved out the end 2nd week of spring quarter. Before that we had an arranged chores list on an excel table, but thing is the RA didn't bother putting up a new one since she was moving out. So my roommate put up a new one without consulting anyone and decided to go ahead and do this. When I said that if it pissed her off that no one was doing their chores, she should talk to the other suitemates. Then she said that she only put it up for "the sake of completeness." What the hell. Then why are you taking it out on me?

Anyways, after 3 weeks of unwashed toilet, guess who had first toilet cleaning duty? Right, thats me. I wouldn't really care except at the beginning of the year this RA did this drawing with slips of paper to determine the order of chores. My roommate decided to go ahead and determine the order herself, giving me and another suitemate one extra week of chores since the days weren't even. Oh, did I mention that she also spelled my name wrong?

So two weeks later its my turn to clean the bathroom again. Turns out that the RA actually brought a lot of the cleaning supplies and also, most importantly a toilet brush. So basically all we've been doing to clean the toilet is to clean the parts not in the bowl. At least I flushed the toilet so the water went down and attempted to clean it. I'm not even sure she cleaned the toilet when it was her turn, but seriously I'm not going to describe the general condition. As of this morning it was disgusting, and my roommate was mad/not speaking to me since I didn't do my chores on time. So I decided to do the right thing, get rubber gloves and the rest of the cleaning stuff and do a good job cleaning the toilet.

Hurray. Shouldn't I feel like I did the right thing? While I was cleaning with the door open, my roommate walks back from dinner and she doesn't say a word, no hi, anything. Still don't know what her problem is, and its not like she's going to tell me, so I'm just going to keep getting the silent treatment.

Right after I finish cleaning she has the gall to go in to check how good of a job I did. She's gotten on my case about not taking enough time to clean in the past. This time I guess she had no comments.

Really, I try to spend as little time with her as possible at this point. I don't know what her problem is. Her first and only words to me today were along the lines of "Oh, isn't that kind of annoying?"

At this point I can't figure out what to say to her. There is no law saying that I can't stay up longer or keep my desk lamp on when she goes to sleep. I don't have to do chores, or clean the part of the room around my desk, or go to bed or do my homework when she says so. I'm 18 and not even my mother tells me any of this stuff, its supposed to be common sense. I've tried to start a discussion a couples times. Shot down. She's always right.

I know I'm not the ideal roommate, but really, who is? She just starts the silent treatment, breaks it with a couple negative remarks and I'm supposed to figure out whats pissing her off and fix it. I'm tired of putting up with her.

Energy Efficiency

I recently ran out of slots on my power strip. Computer, laptop, printer, DS, cellphone, clock, desk lamp, and monitor. Then I realized that half these things don't need to be plugged in all the time. So I just yanked a bunch of cords out.

This is especially relevant since the laptop and printer do not seem to get along, I think its the laptop because the desktop and printer get along fine. But when I tried to print my paper yesterday the printer just spat out blank white sheets of paper until I switched computers. The ethernet cord also doesn't reach all the way to the top bunk, since it already spans about half the room before it even gets to my desk. So the only use of this laptop is to write papers white sitting on my bed. Which I tried this morning. Really not a good idea, I ended up dozing off.

Not sure how to tell my mom that I really don't need a laptop, and my desktop has a bigger screen anyways, so I kind of sort of prefer that.

Paper due yesterday and another one due earlier today so I haven't really gotten much sleep. Yet this is all I can think about. Which things should stay plugged into the power strip, and what should I do with the leftover cords? Should I still use the laptop because the desktop ends up overheating faster? I need to catch up on homework, but I'm also super sleepy. Time to procrastinate until bed time.
